Irrigation and other uses have caused the western Arkansas to become a river of no surface water flow. Since 1975, the number of days of no stream flow at the U.S. Geological Survey gauge at Dodge City has outnumbered the days of measurable flow. This is a readily apparent sign of groundwater depletion.
